Do I have summer access to Bloomberg Law, Lexis+, or Westlaw?

Bloomberg Law, Lexis+, and Westlaw each have policies governing summer access and use by law students. Please review the below information carefully and ensure you do not use any database outside the parameters as this can result in your account being suspended!

Bloomberg Law Summer Access Policy

Bloomberg Law allows students to have uninterrupted access throughout the summer using their academic credentials with no additional registration.

Students are allowed to use their academic account in any employment setting, including law firms, corporations, and judicial clerkships

However, students should obtain permission from their employer before using a personal academic account for research.

If you have any questions about the policy, please contact your Bloomberg Law Client Service Partner Stefanie (Slavens) Schuette, Esq.

Lexis+ Summer Access Policy

Law students automatically have free, unlimited use of their law school Lexis ID for summer employment. No registration is required, just sign in as usual and start researching.

However, students should obtain permission from their employer before using a personal academic account for research.

If you have any questions about the policy, please contact your LexisNexis Representative Kingsley Buitron

Westlaw Summer Access Policy

Over the summer students may use their academic Westlaw IDs for non-commercial and academic use.

You can turn to Westlaw to gain understanding and build confidence in your research skills, but you cannot use them in situations where you are billing a client.

Examples of permissible summer uses for your academic password include:

  • Non-Profit work
  • Clinical work
  • Externship sponsored by the school
  • Research assistant assignments for a faculty member
  • Academic Research, including summer coursework, student journal assignments, or research for a Moot Court or other competition.

If you have any questions about the policy, please contact your Thomson Reuters Academic Account Manager Anna Guerra.
